大规模在线教育新教学法讲座

2016年7月19日,英国开放大学教育技术学院教授Mike Sharples莅临北外,举办大规模在线公开课新教学法讲座。北外网课作为北京外国语大学在线教育的代表,为大家献上讲座的精彩内容,供大家学习交流。

Mike Sharples,英国开放大学教育技术学院教授,世界著名大规模公开课平台FutureLearn学术总负责人,《IEEE学习技术汇刊》(IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies)副主编,曾任诺丁汉大学学习科学研究院院长,国际移动学习协会(the International Association for Mobile Learning)的创会主席,mLearn系列会议的发起人。他发起了一系列的移动学习国际会议,承担科学教学的国际虚拟实验室( Wolfson OpenScience)、通过视频帮助理工科学生理解复杂的课程内容( JUXTALEARN)等重要项目研究。

摘 要:

The rapid growth in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) has shown that millions of people worldwide can benefit from learning online. But MOOCs were initially adapted from methods of campus teaching and online learning. Can we develop new methods of teaching, learning and assessment that are more effective at massive scale? I shall discuss ‘social learning’ adopted by the FutureLearn platform, and ‘citizen inquiry’ developed at the Open University, as new approaches to massive-scale open access web education. The social learning approach provides a flow of learner commentary alongside each item of online content, plus peer review, and educator-led discussion. Techniques from social networks, including ‘liking’, ‘following’ and ‘filtering’ have been adopted to manage the unexpectedly large social engagement (just one video on a FutureLearn course attracted over 50,000 comments and responses from learners). Citizen inquiry is a new method of learning that merges citizen science and inquiry-led learning. Learners engage investigatory science by proposing online science investigations, attracting participants, collecting data, and sharing results. I shall describe the iSpot and nQuire-it sites as examples of citizen inquiry. Together, social learning and citizen inquiry indicate a new approach of social constructivist and inquiry-led learning at massive scale.

大规模公开在线课程(MOOCs)的迅速增长,表明全世界数百万人可以从在线教学中获益。但是MOOCs最初是从学校教学和在线课程而来,我们是否可以发展新的教学、学习和评估方法,使之更适合大规模公开在线教学?我将在讲座中探讨FutureLearn平台所采用的“社会学习”方法,以及香港公开大学的“市民调查”法,作为大规模公开在线教学的新方法。“社会学习”方法可以让学习者们评论每个在线课程、互相评价、参与教师组织的讨论。我们也采用了社交网站中的方法比如“点赞”“关注”“推荐”,以此管理超出预期的大量用户(FutureLearn中仅一个视频就吸引了超过5万条评论)。“市民调查”方法是从国民科学及研究学习中衍生出的教学方法。学习者们可以参与科学调查,召集参与者,收集数据,共享研究结果。我还会介绍iSpot nQuire-it网站作为社会研究的例子。上述两种方法也表现了在社会结构主义和研究主导学习领域大规模教学的新方法。
