With the accelerating pace of globalization, there are more and more people moving around the world for various reasons: a better job, house, community, education, or even climate. It seems that relocation has become a significant part of our lives, and in this essay, the pros and cons of this phenomenon will be discussed.

The reasons people move to other places vary greatly depending on different situation, but some of them typically revolve around employment. Competitive industries, such as IT corporations are running their business globally, so it becomes common for employees to change their workplace from one place to another annually. Social and economic preferences, such as quality of community and cost of living, are two other commonly quoted reasons for moving. Since culture identity has been weakened in today’s global village, people have developed their new “club” according to shared philosophy or lifestyle. Being a social animal, individuals are desired to settle to a place with same group of his or her own. For example, people who like to show off their muscle in jungle cities move to New York, while more casual ones migrate to Vancouver to enjoy a slower tempo of life. So are the economic factors. People nowadays can choose their affordable and ideal life within a wider range around the world.

Indubitably, there are certain drawbacks of frequent migration. One of the first challenges is the daily routine. It can be overwhelming and time consuming to adapt to every little new things like local food, unique culture and unfamiliar language in new environment where none of the basic comforts of home are available. Besides, even though there are world brands like Mcdonald's and Wal-Mart in almost every city, people may still experience a little nostalgia. When it sparks, it feels like a rootless stranger. Luckily, this situation is largely improved as the number of immigrants is increasing, so that people can find their hometown fellows wherever they are.

Despite all those disadvantages, moving around has more obvious beneficial effects for both individual and society at large. For youth, travelling around the world for a period, gap year for example, is a fast-track to personal development. Their communication skill, language and problem solving abilities can be enhanced which benefits the future college or job application. As for adult, they may get promotion in career or overcome the middle age crisis by challenge themselves in brand new circumstances. Also, the vitality of the whole society can be boosted with the integration of different races, religions and cultures, since only the differences inspire innovation.

All in all, there are a variety of common reasons for relocating, either personal job opportunities or social and environmental causes. Although a move can be highly stressful, people still prefer to migrate to new places instead of sticking with one place since there are huge personal and social bonuses.
