Space exploration is costly, and many people argue that it should be halted since the gains from searching for extraterrestrial intelligence has few immediate benefits, and we should care for our own planet more. However, others support the outer space programmes for the sake of future tremendous gains and human nature.

Opponent of space exploration argued that we should pull the plug and spend money on solving current Earth problems. The reason is simple: the intellectual gains of technological advancement can not compensate the costs. There are billions of people suffering from food shortage or environment pollution, and government is not authorized to spend tax payer’s money on programmes with little return. However, there are ample reasons for continue the outer space life form exploring. Curiosity is a human nature. When people left Africa 10s of thousands of years ago, we have expanded our territory to almost every corner of the Earth, large driven by the instinctive desire. Besides, moving to other planets can be the ultimate solution for all troublesome issues on our mother planet, thus searching for life forms in the outer space is an imperative.

As I consider, it worth the money looking for extraterrestrial intelligence. Although basic needs should be put at first place, it is not a pipe dream for moving to other planets in the future days; the existence of alien life shows the hint of the possibility.
